Moneris (Legacy)
Card payments on your checkout page through Moneris' original gateway API. Before version 5.0.0 this payment method was called Moneris (Direct).
What it supports
- Charge or Authorize
- Refunds from the order screen
- Saved cards in your Moneris Vault
- WooCommerce Subscriptions, from version 4.10.0
- AVS and CVD fraud rules
- 3-D Secure 2
- Separate Moneris accounts for CAD and USD
- The classic checkout and the block checkout
Before you start
You need the Store ID and API Token from your Moneris account. If you sell in US dollars through a separate Moneris account, you need its Store ID and API Token too.
Settings
Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Moneris (Legacy).
Basic settings
- Enable/Disable: turns the payment method on or off
- Title: the name customers see at checkout
- Description: the text shown under the payment method at checkout
Merchant settings
- Merchant Settings (CAD): the Store Id and API Token used for payments in Canadian dollars
- Merchant Settings (USD): a second Store Id and API Token, for a separate Moneris account that takes payments in US dollars. Leave these empty if you only sell in CAD.
The CAD fields start with store5 and yesguy, Moneris' public test store. Replace them with your own before going live.
General options
- Sandbox: places the payment method in test mode. Turn it off for live payments.
- Preferred Cards: the card logos shown at checkout
- Statement Descriptor: what customers see on their card statement (up to 20 characters)
- Logging: saves debug messages to the log. Turn it on when you are troubleshooting.
- Maximum Payment Attempts: how many failed payments an order allows within one hour. Default: 3. Set it to 0 to turn the limit off.
- IP Rate Limiting: limits failed payments to 10 per hour from one IP address. On by default. From 5.0.1 this count is shared with Moneris (New API).
Transaction settings
- Transaction Type
- Charge: the payment is taken straight away
- Authorize: the amount is held on the card and taken when you complete the order
- Authorize Order Status: the status an authorized order gets. Use Processing to let fulfillment tools pick it up. Use On Hold to review it first.
AVS and CVD
- AVS (Address Verification Service): off by default. Choose whether to accept, hold or reject a payment in each case: neither the street nor the postal code matches, only one of them matches, the address could not be checked.
- CVD (Card Validation Digits): on by default. Choose what happens when the security code does not match or could not be checked.
3-D Secure
- 3D Secure: turns on 3-D Secure 2. Customers may be asked to confirm the payment with their bank.
- 3D Secure Eligible Cards: the card brands that go through 3-D Secure. Moneris supports Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Cards of other brands are processed as a normal payment.
3-D Secure has to be enabled on your Moneris account. Contact Moneris Sales Support (1-855-465-4980) to have it turned on.
Saved cards
- Saved Cards: lets customers save a card to your Moneris Vault and pay with it next time. On by default.
WooCommerce Subscriptions
From version 4.10.0, Moneris (Legacy) works with WooCommerce Subscriptions. The card used at sign-up is saved to your Moneris Vault so renewals can be charged automatically, even if the Saved Cards setting is off. Renewals are always charged straight away, even when the transaction type is Authorize.
Logs
With Logging turned on, the log is under WooCommerce → Status → Logs, source wpheka-gateway-moneris-pro.
